The enhancement of civilization can be acquired through the manifestation of the vivid thoughts of the scholars derived from a profound inquiry with a multifaceted paradigm. This is, among others, the fundamental reason why the Ministry of Religious Affairs of RI via Directorate General of Islamic Education has always passionately supported the event of Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS) which was established in 2001 and formerly known as Annual Conference on Islamic Studies (ACIS). It becomes an academic forum for noted world scholars both Muslim and non-Muslim who are concerned about the state-of-the-art Islamic studies, especially for the lecturers of State Islamic Higher Education in Indonesia. In this forum, brilliant ideas related to the theme of the conference emerge and are scrutinized in the seminar sessions to ascertain that the ideas are not merely scientifically acceptable but also socio-culturally applicable for the sake of Islamic civil society attainment.
From year to year, there is always change of place and issue of the conference. The change of place is meant to allow the institutions of State Islamic Higher Education under the supervision of Directorate of Islamic Higher Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of RI to take turns hosting the annual event. It is expected that it may further explore the potentials within the host institution as well as the local ones including lecturers and researchers from other institutions, Muslim and non-Muslim scholars, undergraduate and graduate students etc. The issue tapped in the conference also changes to keep up with the current circumstances in terms of local, national and international viewpoints. As such, it has been decided that Raden Intan Lampung State Institute of Islamic Studies becomes the host of the 16th AICIS, to be held on November 1 - 4, 2016. The primary venue of the event is "the Green Campus" of Raden Intan Lampung State Institute of Islamic Studies situated in Bandar Lampung, the capital city of Lampung Province. The major issue of the conference is "The Legacy of Indonesian Islam and Its Contribution to the World Civilization".
For this purpose, a number of prominent scholars and figures have been listed and contacted to be the speakers in the conference both Indonesian nationals and international speakers. The latter ones are professors from predominantly Muslim populated countries such as Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia, and their counterparts from western countries like USA, UK, Australia, France, and Germany. Meanwhile, the speakers of Indonesian nationals include ministers, lecturers, researchers, undergraduate/graduate students and local figures as well. Nevertheless, this conference is not only for the invited speakers and participants, but it is open for public to take part either as the presenter or as the participant. Besides, it is projected that there will be 300 papers presented in the conference.
